Mobile Phone Recycling
Mobile Phone Recycling is one of the most practical way to prevent the
increasing amount of electronic waste. Considering the rapid
technological change which results to obsolescence of some mobile phone,
more and more people prefer to throw their old phones and get a new one.
The result; fast growing surplus. This has been a big issue to some
countries all over the world. In Australia, 64% of waste came from
discarded electronics, and 22% of it are mobile phones. Electronic
wastes are considered "hazardous". According to some research study
shows that a mobile phone contain chemical elements that may cause
diseases such as brain cancer and etc. The frequent use of mobile phone may
cause chemical reaction that is not good for your health.
Mobile phones are ubiquitous. In 2002, there are approximately one billion
cell phone users all over the world. A number of cell phone subscriber
increases yearly, in fact they have exceeded more than three times their
target this year. Like a phenomenon, its uncontrollable. After few years
of study some environmental organisations come up with an idea to
recycle mobile phones. Recycling mobile phones provides environmental
benefits, such as energy savings and reduced number of electronic waste.
Aside from that, it is one way to save the production of metals used in
our society.
If the discarded cell phones are not recycled, it will end up in the
solid waste facilities of the local area. Some areas all over the world
may lack of recycling infrastructure, some because of insufficient
financial support or some only have small scale collection sites. As a
matter of fact recycling is not an option for other areas, they are not
even aware of it. If all the countries and cities all over the world
supports the campaign of cell phone recycling, then the world must be
free from hazardous waste.
